While they may seem beneath us, these two elements—one full of life and nourishment, the other devoid of organic value and spent of energy—soil and dirt are nevertheless the things we're made of, and live upon. We at Manifest believe the concepts of Soil and Dirt represent an interesting lens through which to filter an exhibition of visual art, whether by primarily metaphoric means, or literal examination. We encourage and invite artists working in all media to consider their relationship, and that of their work, to these two worldly aspects, and share what they find relevant.
This exhibit has no predefined expectation for type or style of work to be considered or selected. Submissions can range from the most traditional to the most conceptual or experimental two-dimensional or three-dimensional works. The only criteria is that works must somehow address or feature the theme of soil and/or dirt as primary subject, form, or content.
ANNUAL CASH AWARD: The annual Manifest Grand Jury Prize will result in the awarding of one significant cash prize ($2500) to a single work selected as the 'best of the entire season'.
