Authentic Abstraction in Oil and Cold Wax Workshop with James Edward Scherbarth | Peninsula School of Art

Monday, June 11, 2018 - 9:00am to Thursday, June 14, 2018 - 4:00pm

Concept and Experience
This workshop explores the versatility and possibilities of combining oil paint with cold wax medium. Unlike encaustic, cold wax is used at room temperature to both extend the paint and serve as a medium. Learn how to incorporate pigment sticks, powdered pigments, and more to create rich textures and resonant fields of color.

Beginning with technical demonstrations and hands-on exercises, you will gain a basic understanding of the properties and handling of the medium. Once comfortable with the basics, you will look at form and content, utilize various tools and techniques to push the limits of the medium, and welcome surprises along the way. Emphasis will be placed on process more than finished works.

Open to novice and beginning painters.
