Somatic practice is a field in movement studies and bodywork that emphasizes internal perception and awareness. For dancers, somatic practice offers ways to break years of movement habits, while increasing range and resiliency as artists and teachers. Sessions of pure somatic exploration will be integrated with dance technique classes in several styles, creating opportunities for investigation of how these four body practices can be used to expand artistry, improve technique and support healthy dancing.
