Audience Outreach Sales Manager | Steppenwolf Theatre Company

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is looking for an experienced Audience Outreach Sales Manager for the theatre’s telemarketing and telefunding campaigns.


Steppenwolf seeks a multi-talented individual who can operate independently and is an effective team leader. The Audience Outreach Sales Manager’s primary responsibility is to plan and implement, in consultation with the Development and Marketing Departments, all outbound communications relating to the fundraising and membership campaigns for Steppenwolf Theatre Company. They are responsible for the day-to-day call center operations, and for recruiting, training and supervising phone sales representatives. They also provide database maintenance and lead organization wide and regular sales analyst reports. This highly collaborative position attends regular meetings with the development and marketing departments.

Skills & Qualifications: 

Essential Duties of the Position:

  • Learn all aspects of Steppenwolf’s memberships and fundraising programs as well as its artistic programming
  • Create a positive and team oriented work environment in the outbound call center.
  • Recruit, hire and retain callers.
  • Train, coach and oversee phone sales representatives to attain the best bottom line results possible and excellent customer service. (This includes goal setting, monitoring, disciplining and managing audience outreach staff.)
  • Train employees on Tessitura CRM.
  • Maintain, organize and distribute all leads using the Tessitura database to build lead pools for all phases of the integrated campaign; extracting and proofing all data.
  • Schedule and oversee employee hours worked.
  • Manage the campaigns’ operations in alignment with budgetary goals.
  • Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions, and campaign results in relation to established goals.
  • Recommend new approaches and procedures to accomplish the campaign revenues and goals.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned by Steppenwolf.


  • Sales experience required; non-profit/arts experience or interest preferred.
  • Organized, detail oriented, disciplined, self- motivated individual.
  • Flexible schedule, with evening availability.
  • 2+ years management experience preferred.
  • Computer literate, Microsoft Office proficiency a must.
  • Previous experience or familiarity with Tessitura or Salesforce CRM is a plus.
