Gallery Attendant | The Arts Club of Chicago

We are looking for a responsible Gallery Attendant for the run of our upcoming exhibition, A Home for Surrealism: Fantastic Painting in Midcentury Chicago

The primary responsibility of this position will be to protect the safety of visitors to The Arts Club of Chicago and the works of art on display in the galleries for the run of the exhibition. Will work with the Gallery Manager to enforce expectations for visitors to the gallery and to maintain gallery and condition logs of the works in the exhibition. 

This is an ideal position for current art students or practicing artists looking for gallery experience over the summer.

Since 1916, The Arts Club of Chicago has been a preeminent exhibitor of international art, a forum for established and emerging artists, and a celebrated venue for performers from around the world. For over 100 years, The Arts Club has opened its membership to artists and patrons of the arts, and its exhibitions to the public. At its inaugural meeting, the mission of the Club was defined as: “to encourage higher standards of art, maintain galleries for that purpose, and to promote the mutual acquaintance of art lovers and art workers.”
The Arts Club of Chicago is located at 201 East Ontario Street. Exhibitions are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Tuesday- Friday 11:00 am - 6:00 pm, and Saturday 11:00 am - 3:00 pm.
Skills & Qualifications: 
  • High school diploma or higher preferred; able to read and communicate printed material. 
  • A pleasurable demeanor for guests and an openness to engage with visitors and direct questions. 
  • Confidence in public speaking in order to address visitors and enforce rules for visitors to the galleries.



  • We will be hiring someone who is available for the run of the exhibition, from June 6th - August 17th.
  • Hours are: 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. Tuesday - Friday and 11:00 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday. 


  • Able to remain in and move about galleries for the extent of the shift with breaks for rest. 
  • Able to log activity as it occurs in the galleries and communicate effectively with visitors.

1-2 years experience working at an arts-related institution preferred, but not required.
