Landon Bone Baker Architects is seeking a part time instructor for its nationally recognized teen internship program, LBBA Labs. LBBA Labs provides an introduction to the field of architecture through hands on, project-based learning. During each session, young people engage in active research and develop design-based solutions to architectural issues addressing communities in Chicago. LBBA Labs has run summer programs annually since 2010, and this spring launched our first after school program in partnership with After School Matters. This instructor will facilitate the LBBA Labs After School Matters summer session at the Lutz Family Center in Belmont Cragin.
Dates: June 25 - August 10, 2018
Schedule: Monday through Thursday 1:30 PM – 5:30 PM and Friday 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM (plus paid prep and admin)
Location: Lutz Family Center for After School Matters, 3435 N. Cicero Ave.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead teens as they conduct site visits and interviews, meet with architects and stakeholders, and develop a set of proposals that will be presented at a final jury
Help develop program curriculum and schedule
Establish a safe and comfortable learning environment for young people
Teach hard architecture skills as well as concepts including design, creativity, research, community engagement
Incorporate college and career readiness and other 21st century skills into lessons
Maintain communication with teens and parents about attendance, enrollment deadlines, and other program logistics
Record attendance, enrollment, and student information in Cityspan daily
Ensure that a well-executed final project is completed at the end of the session
